Men's basketball falls to No. 18 CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball team fell 87-54 to No. 18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday in the Hutton Sports Center. Jake Heberle scored 20 points to lead the Panthers.

Chapman battled through the first half after falling behind 15-5 to start the game. The Panthers battled back with an 8-0 run in less than one minute off the clock to climb back in the game. With 6:59 left in the opening half, Jack Roggin found Daniel Foldes at the rim for an easy lay in to tie the game at 22-22.

However, the Stags finished the half on a 14-6 run to open up an eight-point lead at halftime and continued to pull away after the break. Chapman as down 16 points at the midway point of the second half and a 19-3 run for CMS over the next five minutes put the game out of reach.

Heberle scored 15 of his 20 points after halftime but Chapman shot just 33.9 percent as a team compared to 53 percent from CMS. Josh Angle led five Stags in double figures with 20 points.

The Panthers head up to Cal Lutheran on Saturday for a 7 p.m. game. Chapman trails the Kingsmen by three games in the SCIAC standings with three games left to play.
