Men's golf earns preseason recognition, opens play Sunday
ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team is currently receiving votes for national rankings in Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III preseason rankings.
The Panthers open the 2014-15 season earlier than ever before with two fall events before getting in full swing in the spring. Chapman will host Occidental College on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Tustin Ranch Golf Course. They will then travel to Diamond Valley in Hemet for the 54-hole CA State Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the University of La Verne, Sept. 21-23. La Verne ranks in the top five, coming second to SCIAC competitor Redlands who finished third at the NCAA Championships last season.
Last season, the Panthers finished fifth in the SCIAC Championships, with two players placing in the top 10. Senior Kent Paisley returns to lead the Panthers after an 12th place finish in the tournament. And senior captain Giovanni Chiappano is also back after a Championships team-best single round score of 75 on Day 1. Sophomore Bryan Wise, who spent some time ranked nationally in the spring, also returns as Chapman looks to rise in the national polls.
