Men's golf picks up first win of the season

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team started the 2014 fall season off with a win on Sunday afternoon, defeating SCIAC rival Occidental College with a combined score of 301 at Tustin Ranch Golf Course. The Tigers finished just two strokes behind the Panthers with an overall score of 303.

Chapman senior captain Giovanni Chiappano placed second in the event with an overall score of 71 (-1), just falling one stroke short of Occidental's leader Colton Bares.

Rookie freshman Matt Finnerty proved to be an early asset for the Panthers shooting one above par, with an overall score of 73. Rounding out the top five, sophomore Angel Casan shot an overall score of 74 (+2).

Next the Panthers travel to Diamond Valley Golf Club for the 54-hole CA State Intercollegiate Tournament. The three-day event hosted by University La Verne begins on Sunday, Sept. 21.
