Final round readies Panthers for SCIAC Championships

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team used a dual match against SCIAC rival Whittier College as its final tune up before this weekend's SCIAC Championships. The Panthers and Poets played at California Country Club in Whittier on Monday with senior Kent Paisley and sophomore Kyle John tying for third place overall with scores of 6-over 78.

Senior Giovanni Chiappano came in at seventh place with an 8-over 80, followed by junior Angel Casan who shot an 83 to round out the Panthers' top four.

With the individual team-low score, John earned the final spot for Chapman in the SCIAC Championships which begin on Sunday at Oak Valley Golf Club, hosted by Whittier College.

The Panthers' six-man squad heading into the Championships will be led by sophomore Bryan Wise, who is averaging 75.8 strokes per 18 holes over 16 rounds this season. He has scored Chapman's low score in all but six rounds this year. Chiappano has been the Panthers' second-best golfer in terms of average, at 6.4 strokes over par this season and hasn't missed a round all season.

Rounding out the Chapman six will be Paisley, junior Nickolas Gates and sophomore Chuck Pedone. The Panthers enter the Championships ranked fifth in the conference after placing fifth and sixth in SCIAC tournaments this season.
