Wise low round scorer in SCIAC No. 1

Beaumont, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team opened the 2016 spring season by competing the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 1 at the Champions Course of Tukwet Canyon Golf Course in Beaumont.

The Panthers finished both days in fifth place for a final score of 655, shooting a 330 on day on and improving to a 325 on day two. The conditions were brutal with 20-25 mph winds ultimately hurting the Panthers overall scores and making them much higher than normal.

Junior captain Bryan Wise was the low-round scorer on day one posting a 75. The junior golfed a 79 on day two for a final score of 154 to tie for second place in the tournament. Wise led the Panthers with five birdies and ranked third with 17 holes on par.

Junior Chuck Pedone tied for 26th overall shooting 87 on day one and improving by six strokes on day two to shoot 81 for a final score of 168. Pedone pared 16 holes.

Shooting consistently on both days of the tournament, senior Nickolas Gates shot an 85 on day one and a 84 on day two to finish in a three way tie for 28th with a score of 169.

Freshman Griffin Tso also shot five birdies, improving from 92 to 85 on day two of the tournament.

Chapman will travel to Tierra Rejada, Moorpark on Thursday, Feb. 11 for a Tri-match featuring SCIAC foes Cal Lutheran University and Whittier College.
