Men's golf takes ninth at West Cup
LA VERNE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team took ninth at the 16-team West Cup. The three-round tournament was played over two days with two rounds being played on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.
Senior Bryan Wise and sophomore Griffin Tso finished in a tie for 12th overall to lead the Panthers. Wise opened the tournament on a strong note with a 4-over 75 in his first round and a 3-over 74 in his second round of the day. At Monday's end, Wise sat in fifth individually. He finished up the tournament with a 76 to finish 12-over par for the tournament with a 225.
Tso saved his best round for last to climb three spots on the leaderboard on the final day. He fired a 72 (+1) to close out the tournament after he shot a 3-over 74 in the first round and an 8-over 79 in Monday's second round. He matched Wise's score of 225 (+12).
As a team, the Panthers opened the tournament with their best round. Chapman was tied for fourth after the first round as the Panthers carded a team score of 305 (+21). However, the Panthers fell to eighth after the second round on Monday as they turned in a team score of 312 (+28). Chapman finished up the tournament by going 27-over par as a team with a 311, finishing up with a 928 (+76) for the three-round tournament.
Freshman Brent Bjorndahl had one of his strongest rounds of the year with a 76 (+5) to start the West Cup. He shot 78 in round two and an 82 in the third round to finish with three-round score of 236 (+23). Sophomore Dallas Haun put up consistent numbers with an 80-81-81 to finish 29-over with a 242 to round out the team scoring.
Chapman next heads to the SCIAC #2 tournament on April 8-9 before the season wraps up April 23-25 at the SCIAC Championship.
