Hval leads pack at West Cup

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team competed in the West Cup at the Sierra La Verne Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. After the first round of play, the men were in seventh place overall and freshman Brody Hval ranked sixth overall after shooting 74 (+3).

Junior Griffin Tso finished the first round just two strokes back from Hval after shooting 76 (+5) in the first round. Junior Dallas Haun and sophomore Ricky Hoefert ended round one with matching scores of 81 (+10) and freshman Avery Keating rounded out the first round after shooting 82 (+11).

The Panthers dropped down to 13th place after the second round of the tournament. Haun tied is first round score the second time around, shooting 81 (+10). Tso led the pack in the second round, shooting 79 (+8) while Hval shot 81 (+10) and both Hoefert and Keating shot 82 (+11).

On day two of the tournament, the men tied their second round score, shooting 323 (+39) in the third and final round of play. The men finished in 16th place with Keating leading the pack shooting 79 (+8) in the third round. Hval and Tso finished just a couple strokes behind Keating at 80 (+9) and 81 (+10), respectively. Haun shot 83 (+12) and Hoefert shot 86 (+15) to finish out the tournament for the men.

Hval finished the West Cup with the best showing, tying for 38th place with an overall score of 235 (+22). Tso finished just one stroke behind him tied for 40th place at 236 (+23), helping Chapman to a 16th place finish.

The Panthers take this weekend off but head to Pasadena, Calif. for SCIAC No. 2 on April 7 and 8.
