Men's golf begins SCIAC Championships in seventh

CHINO HILLS, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team sits in seventh in a very tight team leaderboard after the first round of the SCIAC Championship at Los Serranos Golf Club. All six Panthers on the course were within three strokes of each other after the first round.

Just six strokes separates third place from eighth place in a tightly contested race in the team standings. The Panthers are in seventh as a team but just four strokes out of fourth and nine strokes out of third.

Three different golfer paced the Panthers in the first round. Junior Griffin Tso, freshman Brody Hval and sophomore Ricky Hoefert all turned in identical cards with a four-over 76. The threesome is tied for 18th on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Sian Rogers is just a stroke back of his teammates with a 77 (+5) after the first day to round out the team scoring.

Freshman Avery Keating shot a 78 (+6) and junior Dallas Haun was seven-over with a 79.

The leader from CMS was four-under par for the day to take a three-stroke lead in the championship event. CMS also leads the team leaderboard as the only team to shoot under par for the day.

The three-round championship event continues tomorrow with the first groups teeing off at 9 a.m.
