Men's golf breaks school record at SCIAC Championship

CHINO HILLS, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team moved up to sixth place with a school record team score to finish up the SCIAC Championship at Los Serranos Golf Club. Freshman Avery Keating finished the final round under par to move into the top-10.

Keating led the Panthers through the final day of the tournament with a two-under par 70 to cap off his freshman season. The under-par round tied Keating for the best 54-hole tournament score in school history with a four-over par 220. He vaulted 10 spots on the final day to get into the top-10.

As a team, the Panthers set another school record to move up to sixth place in the standings. Behind Keating's sub-par round, the Panthers turned in a 54-hole tournament score below 900 for the first time in school history. Chapman shot an 899 (+35) as a team after firing off a 293 (+5) today. The Panthers overtook Whittier for the sixth spot. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished nine-under par to take the team title.

Junior Griffin Tso turned in his best round of the tournament with a three-over 75 to finish the tournament with a 227 (+11) in 28th. Freshman Brody Hval kept pace with Tso, finishing with an indentical three-over 75 today and an 11-over 227 for the championship.

Junior Dallas Haun also had his best round of the championship event with a one-over par 73 in the final round to help lower the Panthers' team score. He finished his three rounds with a 229 (+13).

The Panthers record-breaking tournament score wrapped up the season. The final round score of 293 was their best of the spring.
