Men’s golf ends fall schedule at OUAZ Fall Invite
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Chapman University men's golf team competed in the Ottowa University of Arizona Fall Invite to round out its fall schedule. Senior Ricky Hoefert helped lead the Panthers, tying for ninth place overall as Chapman finished in fifth place of 11 teams.
Hoefert tied his all-time lowest round score in the first round, shooting a 69 (-3). The veteran added a few strokes to his second-round score to shoot a 74 (+2) but shot an even-par 72 to finish all three rounds one-under par. Hoefert was just one stroke shy of teammate Avery Keating's school-record 54-hole score 214 (-2) and beat his own individual 54-hole score by three strokes.
Junior Brody Hval was the next to place for the Panthers, shooting an overall 221 (+5) to tie for 20th place. Hval shot a 73 (+1) in the first and third rounds and a 75 (+3) in the second. Fellow classmate Avery Keating finished just one stroke behind Hval to tie for 25th place overall. Keating was six-over par through the first two round but shot an even 72 in the final round to stay in the middle of the pack.
Freshman Will Ellegard rounded out the scoring, tying for 31st place overall with a three-round score of 225 (+9). The rookie shot a 75 (+3) in the first round and a 77 (+5) in the second round but shaved off a few strokes to shoot one-over par in the third and final round.
Senior Brent Bjorndahl shot a 239 (+23). The veteran went four-over par in the first round and seven-over par in the second but shot an 84 (+12) to take 53rd place.
This was the Panthers' second-best three-round score in program history as the squad finished with a team score of 883 (+19). Their all-time best three-round score came in October of 2018 as Chapman shot an 877 at the Marymount Fall Invitational.
This was the second and final tournament of the men's golf fall schedule. The Panthers return to the links in spring 2020.
