Trio of men's soccer players named second team All-SCIAC

ORANGE, Calif. –  A trio of Chapman University men's soccer players in sophomore D Mikey Stoddard, freshman M Boston Kimmel and senior F Mauricio Alfonso have been named second team All-Conference as announced Tuesday by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). All three were starters for a Chapman team that finished in sixth place in the conference with an 8-10-1 overall record, 7-8-1 in SCIAC play.

The senior, Alfonso, led the team in goals (9), points (21) and game-winning goals (2) and finished second on the team in assists (3). He also finished fourth in the SCIAC in goals per game (.53) and fifth in points per game (1.24) and goals. During his four seasons, Alfonso tallied 28 goals and 11 assists for 67 points which rank tied for eighth all-time at Chapman.

Kimmel started 17 games during his freshman campaign and tallied three goals and an assist in 1,056 minutes played. He finished second on the team in shots on goal (17), and of Chapman players with 10 or more shots on goal, he finished second on the team in shots on goal percentage (.486). In a 4-0 win over La Verne, the Scottsdale, Ariz. native added a game-winning goal.

Stoddard had a career year as he led the team with 1,415 minutes played and anchored a defense that held opponents scoreless in five games. In addition, he started 18 games and added two goals, both career highs.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
