Men's Soccer earns blowout win in home opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team kicked off its season with an 8-0 blowout win over Saint Katherine College on Wednesday at Wilson Field. Junior captain Marco Saglimbeni led the Panther offense scoring the first and last goal of the game for Chapman.

Senior Boston Kimmel scored his first goal of the season from 10-yards out at the 16:24 minute mark and then followed up less than 15 minutes later with an assist to sophomore Niko Arellanes to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Kannon Kuhn then scored with five minutes left in the half off a cross from junior Cole Peters to give the panthers a 4-0 lead at the end of the first. 

In freshman Grant Fremmerlid's debut as a Panther, the forward scored two goals less than 10 minutes apart from each other to begin the second half. Peters also scored in the second half earning his third career goal.

Chapman recorded 33 shots, including 17 shots on goal, while the Panther defense allowed just one shot on goal in 90 minutes of play.

The Panthers look to build off their success in Friday's match against UC Santa Cruz on Sept 4 at 7 p.m. at Wilson Field. Chapman will then begin SCIAC play on Monday, Sept. 7 at Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
