Augustine comes up clutch in 3-0 win over Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Augustine had a pair of huge saves as the Chapman men's soccer team came away with a 3-0 win over Redlands on Wednesday. The Panthers (3-2-2, 2-1-0 SCIAC) turned in their second clean sheet in three SCIAC matches.

Augustine was the hero early and the Chapman attack pulled away late for the big SCIAC win. In the first half hour, Augustine was put to the test twice. With the match still scoreless, Redlands (3-2-0, 1-2-0 SCIAC) hit the post with a first shot and nearly put back the rebound. Augustine flew in for the point blank save to keep the match tied.

In the 29th minute, the Bulldogs earned a penalty kick but Augustine dove to push the low shot away. Less than 10 minutes earlier, Chapman went up 1-0 on an own goal. Sam Rudich's shot was deflected high in the air and the keeper dropped the ball into the net as it came down.

Sophomore Hans Seraphim made it 2-0 less than two minutes into the first half when he finished off a free kick from sophomore Zev Gollis. Seraphim later drew a foul in the penalty area and junior Marco Saglimbeni buried the penalty kick for the Panthers third goal.

Chapman played the last 30 minutes with a man down but was able to keep Redlands out of the net and add to the lead with the penalty shot.

Chapman is back at home on Saturday when the Panthers host La Verne at 7 p.m.
