ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Cole Peters scored the Chapman University men's soccer team game-winner in a 1-0 match against Pomona-Pitzer on Monday night at Wilson Field.
Tied 0-0 after 56 minutes of play, Peters knocked the ball to the left corner of the box under a diving Sagehen goalkeeper to lift the Panthers to a 1-0 lead. The score resulted from a ball dropped in the box from outside left wing junior Lorenzo Belassen.
With just eight minutes left in the match Pomona-Pitzer's Tomas Negritto had a chance to score, but Panther junior Sean Augustine made a diving save to preserve the Panthers 1-0 lead. Augustine earned eight saves on the night and improved to 5-1-1 on the season.
Chapman and Pomona heavily relied on its defense throughout the match, with each team managing under 10 shots on goal.
The Panthers (5-2-1 overall, 2-2-1 SCIAC) look to build on their back-to-back wins on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Caltech at 11 a.m. The Panthers will return home on Saturday, Oct. 1 for a 1 p.m. match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
