Men's Soccer falls to Redlands in SCIAC tournament championship

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the No. 1 seed University of Redlands on Saturday night in the SCIAC Tournament Championship at Farquhar field. The No. 3 seed Panthers finished the season with 14 wins, a programs best since 1999.  

Less than 10 minutes into the match, Redlands Casey ChubFertal shot to the right of junior GK Sean Augustine on a leading pass by Chase Boone to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs kept the Panthers to just one shot in the entire first half, maintaining possession majority of the half with five shots.

Boone added an insurance goal at the 52:26 mark finishing a cross to the left corner by Austin Moore to help the Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead. 

The Panthers came out firing in the second half, senior Marco Saglimbeni took an early shot missing just wide 30 seconds in. Junior Grant Fremmerlid missed just left after fighting off two defenders with 26 left in the match. Around the 15-minute mark, Chapman peppered the Redlands goal keeper with three quick shots, but key defensive blocks kept the Panthers from hitting the back of the net.

The Panthers finished the match with 18 shots in the game, including 10 on goal in the second half. Augustine finished the match with three saves.

The Bulldogs (16-5-0 overall) captured their 14th conference title with Saturday night's victory and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA playoffs.

The Panthers will have to await their playoff fait which will be determined on Monday, Nov. 7.
