Men's soccer falls to Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team fell 4-1 to the visiting Redland University Bulldogs on Monday night. Senior Connor McLane found the back of the net in the second half off a pass from captain Jarod Matteoni for the Panthers' lone goal.

Bulldogs captain Collin ChubbFertal had the first two goals of the evening, scoring early in the first half off a loose ball and slipping it past Chapman net-minder Evan Owens. Owens played all 90 minutes in his first contest of the season recording two saves for the Panthers.

Chapman was down 1-0 at the half but ChubbFertal's found the back of the net again just minutes into the second half for his second goal of the night. Redlands struck for the third time during the 61st minute with a goal by freshman Jackson Fox.

The Panthers got one back in the 69th minute on a scrum in front of the net. Matteoni's shot was saved by the Redland's keeper but the rebound bounced in front of the post. McLane sprinted in to finish off the opportunity and cut the lead to 3-1.

While the Panthers continued to push forward late in the second half, the Bulldogs' junior Derrin Valeri pushed the lead back to three when he was played through the back line and finished with a well struck shot to the far post.

Chapman will host Caltech on Saturday at 11 a.m. as it passes the halfway mark of the SCIAC season.
