Men's Soccer readies for 2022 season

ORANGE, Calif — Men's Soccer comes into the 2022 fall season after a SCIAC tournament appearance in 2021.

The Panthers are ranked third in the preseason poll and look to shake up the standings this season.

Shooting Stars

Men's Soccer is returning 37 of its 38 goals scored in 2021, with Aidan Wall, the reigning SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, remaining on the roster. Wall scored 13 goals in his breakout junior campaign, and looks to be the centerpiece of Chapman's offensive attack.

Behind Wall, three Panthers tallied three goals scored, but freshmen forward Riley Thomas and Garrett Lindfelt were standout performers in their rookie seasons. Thomas converted on 25% of his shot attempts and knocked his shots on goal at a 67% clip showing off his accuracy.

Lindfelt saw action in 15 games last season, starting eight of the matches. A midfielder, Lindfelt was able to find his shots often, taking about two a game, and totaling the second most shots-on-goal on the squad.

Run it Back

Chapman's goalie Chandler Siemonsma entered his senior season in 2021 and will be returning for the Panthers in 2022. Siemonsma, a fifth-year student, played the game of his life against Claremont M-S in the SCIAC semi-final. The keeper posted 12 saves in the win or go home contest with two men down. The Panthers were :43 seconds away from upsetting the number one seeded Stags.

Defensive Dominance

Men's Soccer is to return five impact defenders from the 2021 season. One of which includes Treyden Buder-Nakasone who was named to Second Team All-SCIAC in his sophomore campaign.

Junior Ryan Bridge is also set to return. The defenseman started in all 17 games, the only Panther to do so in 2021. He scored one goal in his second season and tallied one assist as well.

The Panthers will open their season at home on Friday, Sept. 2 against Carroll University (Wis.) at Wilson Field.
