Paine nets game-winner

ORANGE, Calif — Men's soccer took home its ninth win of the season in a non-conference matchup against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, 2-1.

With the score tied at one in the 76th minute, Garrett Lindfelt raced down the left side of the field and hit a beautiful cross over to freshman Dylan Paine who took care of business. Paine poked a high, looping shot off his right foot over the goalie's leap to put the dagger in the Banana Slugs.

The Panthers first goal came in the 10th minute, when Lindfelt got a nice bounce off of the cross bar to his left foot. He was able to strike one past the keeper earning his fourth goal of the season. David Mottale earned an assist after the corner kick found its way to Lindfelt.

The Banana Slugs lone goal came in the middle of the first half, on an own goal by Chapman's defense.

With the victory, the Panthers improved to 9-1-5 on the season, remaining at 6-0-3 in SCIAC play. UC Santa Cruz fell to 6-8-3.

Chapman's next contest will be against Occidental on Wednesday, Oct. 26, senior day for the squad, potentially having large postseason implications.
