SCIAC Tournament: 5 Things To Know

HISTORIC HOST

Chapman enters the SCIAC Tournament as the top seed for the first time in program history. The Panthers went 6-1-4 in the regular season to earn the regular season title. They are hosting a SCIAC Tournament game for the second time since joining the SCIAC in 2012 but making their eighth appearance in the postseason tournament.

WALL-TO-WALL

Fifth-year senior Aidan Wall was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Over the last two seasons, Wall has scored 25 goals for the Panthers with 17 of those coming in SCIAC games. He ranks 23rd among active Division III players with 35 career goals scored. This season, he also tallied his first career assists.

SUPER SEMIFINAL SIEMONSMA

Chandler Siemonsma has made two previous SCIAC Tournament appearances in his career and has been stellar in all three matches. As a freshman, Siemonsma kept a clean sheet through the whole tournament to lead the Panthers to their only SCIAC Tournament title. He made five saves in the semi against CMS before making another save in PKs to give Chapman the upperhand and eventual win. He made four more saves in the championship match against Occidental for the shutout. Last year, he made a career-best 12 saves while the Panthers played the majority of the match down a man and the majority of the second half 11v9.

A CAREER YEAR FOR HOWE

In his first three seasons (plus the one match during 2020-21), Tobi Howe scored eight goals. In 2022, he doubled his career total with eight more goals plus two assists. Howe was selected to the All-SCIAC First Team after ranking third in the SCIAC this season. Howe is no stranger to big moments. It was his goal in 2018 that provided the difference in SCIAC Tournament championship match and clinched the Panthers' trip to the NCAA Tournament.

DANGEROUS AT HOME

The Panthers have scored 34 of their 47 goals on Wilson Field this year. With just 10 matches at home, the Panthers are averaging over three goals per game on their home turf in 2022. If Chapman were to compare just its home total to the other eight SCIAC teams, the Panthers would equal Redlands for the top spot in the conference. On the other end of the field, the Panthers have only allowed 10 goals to be scored against them in 10 home matches this year, compared to 15 goals allowed in seven road contests.
