Hertel's early goal sends men's soccer to SCIAC Championship

ORANGE, Calif — Men's soccer took home a 1-0 victory to move onto the SCIAC Championship match on Sunday, Nov. 6.

The Panthers scored the only goal they needed right away in the sixth minute. Chapman had a corner kick opportunity and a few fortunate bounces off of some defenders left Sebastian Hertel with a great look at the goal. He rocketed in a right footer, at about chest height, straight into the back of the net.

The Kingsmen had multiple looks in the offensive half throughout the game, but none greater than a breakaway one-on-one situation in the 60th minute.

Chandler Siemonsma found himself all alone with the streaking Kingsman, playing the ball beautifully, blocking a pair of shot attempts all while completely on the ground. He eventually corralled the ball, literally saving the game for the Panthers.

Chapman's defense did just enough in the second half to give Cal Lutheran tough looks at the goal, and clearing it to midfield on multiple occasions.

With the victory the Panthers will move on to host the SCIAC Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m., where they will host the Occidental Tigers, who defeated the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 3-1 in OT.
