Men's tennis lights out over Rochester, loses to Texas-Tyler

ORANGE, Calif. – It's been a busy few days for the Chapman University men's tennis team as it hosted the University of Rochester (N.Y.) and Texas-Tyler this week at the Chapman Tennis Courts, earning a split.

Chapman 5, Rochester 4
Chapman began its match against Rochester on Tuesday evening, but with the match tied, the tennis court lights went out forcing the match to be picked up on Thursday. The Panthers won 5-4, playing particularly well in its singles matches.

Rochester won two of three doubles matches to jump out in front. Chapman's No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Justin Thompson and Chris Williams defeated Rochester's Joel Allen and Julian Danko 8-4. The Panthers then won four of the six singles matches to pull out the win.

Rochester's Boris Borovcanin defeated Thompson 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 match. Junior Dylan Tevlin, sophomore Andre Herd, senior Alex Klein and freshman Sam Farzani each won their singles matches.

Texas-Tyler 5, Chapman 4
Against Texas-Tyler, Chapman won two of its three doubles matches, but in singles play struggled, losing four of six. The doubles team of Thompson and Williams won again, this time 8-6 over Kevin Wright and Robert Hodous of Texas-Tyler. Herd and sophomore Kevin Smyth also got a doubles victory, 8-5.

Thompson won for Chapman 6-3, 6-4 over Texas-Tyler's Ryan Spencer in a matchup of the top singles players. Freshman Kyle Coates earned Chapman's only other singles victory 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
