Another top-30 team hands Panthers their third loss in a row

ORANGE, Calif. – Playing its sixth Division III top-30 team this season and third in a row, the Chapman University men's tennis team lost its third consecutive match, falling to No. 19-ranked Trinity College (Conn.) 7-2 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.

Six of Chapman's seven losses have come against some of the nation's top-ranked teams with still three more on the upcoming schedule, beginning with No. 7 Middlebury College (Vt.) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Doubles came down to a tie-break battle on the No. 1 court between Chapman partners junior Dylan Tevlin and senior Alex Klein against Trinity's Anson McCook and Ned Mandel. Trinity took the tiebreaker with a 9-8 victory, helping the Bantams to a 2-1 scoring edge in doubles.

Chapman sophomores Justin Thompson and Chris Williams continued their red-hot doubles play with an 8-4 win on the No. 2 court. Despite suffering their first loss of the season on Tuesday, the duo returned to the win column on Thursday improving their overall record to 7-1.

In singles play, Chapman couldn't hold on to a couple of leads in the Nos. 1 and 3 matches. Thompson won the first set on Court #1 by a score of 7-6, but fell to No. 47-ranked McCook in the second and third sets 6-3, 6-4 to drop his singles record to 4-7 this season. Meanwhile, Chapman sophomore Andre Herd also jumped out to a one-set lead in the No. 3 match, only to fall 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Freshman Kyle Coates earned the Panthers' lone singles win with a three-set victory over Trinity's Dan Carpenter 3-6, 7-6, (10-2) from the No. 5 position, improving to 5-6 this year.
