Men's tennis sweeps Marymount in spring opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team swept its way to an opening day win over visiting Marymount University of California. Two Panthers needed three sets but Chapman secured the 9-0 win.

The Panthers quickly swept through doubles winning 8-1 on both the No. 1 court and No. 3 court. The freshmen duo of Steven Ferry and Joh Blinder had to fight a bit harder on court No. 2 but ultimately pulled out the 8-5 win.

Blinder quickly won his No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and sophomore Adrien Rooney  won easily 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the match for Chapman. Ferry took the 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 and Len Kamemoto opened his senior season with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2.

In his dual debut on the No. 1 court, freshman Caleb Wilkins was pushed into a third set but emerged with a 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-2) victory. Junior Jacob Lee split his first two sets 6-2, 2-6 and won the tiebreak in the third set 10-8 to finish off the sweep.

The Panthers host Cal Lutheran on Sunday at 11 a.m. as the first match in a SCIAC doubleheader. The women's teams will face off at 2 p.m.
