Men's tennis takes down Whitman

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team ended a two-match slide with a 6-3 win over Whitman in an early morning match at the Anderson Tennis Center. The match was moved up to 8 a.m. because of rain that was forecasted to begin in the late morning.

The teams started with singles before playing the three doubles matches. Caleb Wilkins grabbed the first point for Chapman with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup. After the Blues evened up the match, all of the remaining four matches were won in straight sets. Chapman took four of the six singles matches to get within a point of clinching the team win.

Tommy Hays won 6-1, 7-6 in the No. 2 match and Andy Hess won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. Danny Marsh continued his hot start to the season with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5.

Marsh and Julien Sanseverino quickly clinched the match for Chapman with an 8-1 win in the No. 2 doubles match. Wilkins and Mac Caldwell battled to an 8-7 win for the Panthers' sixth point.

Chapman' next scheduled match is Thursday at 1 p.m. against Amherst.
