Men's tennis falls to No. 21 Amherst

ORANGE, Calif. – The 17th-ranked Chapman University men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to No. 21 Amherst.

The match began with a trio of tight doubles matches – all of which needed  a tiebreaker to be decided. The Mammoths took the first point on court three. Caleb Wilkins and Mac Caldwell took the next point for Chapman with a tiebreaker win on court one. The Panthers had match point on court two before the Mammoths stormed back and scored the final five points of the match to grab the 8-7 (8-6) win and take a 2-1 advantage.

Amherst used the momentum from the doubles matches advantage to take all six singles matches. Wilkins overcame a first set loss but eventually fell in a three-setter – 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5). Danny Marsh also fell in a three set match to break up his early season win streak. Josh Blinder fell in three sets as well on court six.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday to take on Johns Hopkins at 11 a.m.
