Men's water polo earns highest ranking ever; Neville WWPA Player of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. - Just days after an undefeated week against WWPA competition, including a win over former Division III No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer, the Chapman University men's water polo team has jumped four spots in the Division III poll to No. 2 which is its highest ranking ever.

Playing a large role in Chapman's successful week was junior utility Steve Neville who has been named the WWPA Men's Player of the Week for Oct. 21. Over the course of three games, Neville had nine goals, seven assists and two steals for the Panthers who went 3-0 with wins over Pomona-Pitzer, No. 9 Occidental and Caltech. Against Pomona, Neville scored four goals with three assists. He also had two goals against Caltech and three goals against Occidental.

Chapman (12-9), winners of five straight and nine of its last 10 games replaces Redlands who is now the top-ranked squad in Division III. Pomona-Pitzer dropped four spots in the poll to No. 5 after its 10-5 loss to Chapman on Saturday. Rounding out the top five is Whittier College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps who are third and fourth, respectively.
