Santa Clara downs Chapman 18-9

ORANGE, Calif. – For the first 16 minutes of the game, the Chapman University water polo team stayed within striking distance, but in the second half No. 14 Santa Clara University slowly put the game out of reach as they went on to win 18-9 on Friday night at the Allred Aquatics Center. The loss is Chapman's third in a row, dropping its record to 3-2 at home and 1-6 in WWPA play.

Chapman (4-7) trailed by four at halftime, but a strong fourth quarter by Santa Clara pushed their lead to as many as 10 late in the game. Broncos' freshman 2M Tucker Carlson led the fourth quarter scoring with three of his game-high four goals.

The turning point of the game came in the last minute of the first quarter as Santa Clara (7-6) pushed its lead from 4-3 to 6-3 with goals from junior UT Brett Zylstra and senior DR Joshua Luebke. From that point on, Chapman could not get the score under a three-goal deficit.

Panthers' senior DR Chase Parlee had a team-high three goals. Chapman had a balanced offensive attack with seven players scoring. For Santa Clara, junior UT James Case also added four goals.
