Thirteen different Panthers score goals as Panthers win home opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team debuted in front of its home crowd on Sunday morning – and did so in style – defeating visiting Caltech 20-5 at the Allred Pool. Thirteen different players contributed goals for the Panthers, who have now won six of their past nine home matches dating back to last season.

Chapman (4-6) – ranked No. 8 in Division III – jumped on Caltech in its home opener, scoring eight of the game's first nine goals to lead 8-1 at halftime. Junior driver Ross Harper and freshman utility Andrew Wilcox accounted for six of those first half goals, scoring three each to boost the Panthers' early lead.

Harper and Wilcox each added goals in the third quarter as Chapman extended its lead with six more goals in the frame. Junior utility Brandon Kahoush scored his second goal of the game late in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 13-3 lead. Chapman was led offensively by Harper and Wilcox who scored four goals apiece.

Freshman goalie Erik Murata made his first career start for Chapman and came up big on several occasions. The rookie made eight saves in the game, including stopping two penalty shots.

For Caltech (0-7), Jack Blackwood and Daniel Sexton each scored a pair of goals. The Beavers dropped their seventh straight game to begin the season and remain winless.
