Freshman Alvarado named Co-WWPA Player of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University freshman driver Mark Alvarado has been named Co-Player of the Week by the Western Water Polo Association. It is the first weekly honor the Panthers have captured this season and the first since Chase Parlee earned the honor last October.

In a weekend where Chapman's offense went off for 63 goals, Alvarado had a career four-game stretch at the Claremont Convergence. The rookie scored 14 goals, had nine assists and eight steals to share the WWPA Player of the Week honors with Claremont junior Huston Middlesworth. The Panthers defeated Fresno Pacific 16-15 and Connecticut College 18-9, but fell to George Washington 16-15 and Pomona-Pitzer 17-14, both in overtime.

The Panthers have won four of their past six matches and are 10-10 overall. Chapman returns to action on Saturday to face the University of La Verne on the road at 2 p.m.
