Men's water polo moves up to No. 7 in nation in team GPA

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team climbed to No. 7 overall in team grade point average in the nation according to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The Panthers earned a combined GPA of 3.139 for the 2011 season – up from No. 16 and a GPA of 2.997 from last year. 

In addition, five members of the team earned All-Academic Awards from the ACWPC. The ACWPC All-Academic Awards are broken down into three levels based on GPA. An athlete with a GPA between 4.0 and 3.71 is "Outstanding". Those with a GPA ranging from 3.70 to 3.41 are "Superior" and the "Excellent" category is between 3.40 and 3.20.

Junior goalie Taylor Roszkos earned "Superior" honors and was named to the team for the third time in his career. Senior utility Pierre Masson was also given "Superior" honors, finishing his career with four All-Academic awards from the ACWPC.

Three Panthers earned "Excellent" honors, including senior utility Nick Van Nordheim – earning his second All-Academic award. Freshman utility Tim Breitfeller and sophomore driver Dylan Trumbull rounded out the recipients with each of them being named to the team for the first time. 

The Panthers finished behind fellow Division III schools Claremont-McKenna (3.244) and Johns Hopkins University (3.160), but ahead of SCIAC rivals Occidental College (3.010), California Lutheran University (3.000), and the University of La Verne (2.970).
