Chapman to host SCIAC Water Polo Championship

ORANGE, Calif. – All nine SCIAC schools will descend on the Allred Aquatics Center on the campus of Chapman University to determine the conference's best team at the 2013 SCIAC Men's Water Polo Championship, beginning on Friday afternoon. Seven of the nine schools are ranked among the top-10 in Division III nationally and, for the first time in SCIAC history, the conference winner will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.

First round action begins on Friday in a battle of unranked teams: Occidental and Caltech at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to face top-seed and No. 1-ranked Whittier at 5:30 p.m. Host Chapman, which earned the fifth seed in the tournament, will play in Friday's nightcap against fourth-seeded Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 7 p.m.

The tournament will continue on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and the finals on Sunday begin at 10 a.m. with the title match starting at 2:30 p.m.

The SCIAC champion will be determined via point system with each team entering the tournament having accumulated points based on the regular season standings. The winner of the weekend's bracket will earn the coveted 10 points towards the overall standings. Second place will earn eight points, third place will earn seven points, etc.

Chapman will offer live streaming video of most of the tournament games, including all of the action on championship Sunday.
