Alvarado, Carter earn ACWPC All-America honors

ORANGE, Calif. – The accolades keep rolling in for senior utility Brett Carter and junior driver Mark Alvarado, who were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America Team in an announcement made Wednesday. The duo, who received All-SCIAC recognition in December, paced the Chapman University men's water polo team by leading the team in goals (Carter, 47) and assists (Alvarado, 44) in the Panthers' 9-12 season.

This marks the sixth straight season and just the seventh time in school history the Panthers have had two or more athletes recognized on the ACWPC All-America team.

Carter, who earned his third straight selection, received second team recognition after leading the Panthers with 47 goals scored in 19 games. The Honolulu, Hawaii native finished his Chapman career ranked fourth on the Panthers' all-time list with 196 goals. More than just a scorer, Carter tallied 28 assists in his senior season, including a school record-tying seven assists in a Nov. 24 match against Cal Lutheran. As the Panthers' most versatile player, Carter was also effective on the defensive end, tallying 16 steals and 22 earned ejections in the campaign.

Alvarado earned his second selection in the last three seasons with honorable mention in recognition of his defensive skills and his ability to create offensive opportunities for his teammates. The junior led the Panthers with 53 steals, more than doubling the season total of his next closest teammate. Additionally, Alvarado led the Panthers with 44 assists while also finding enough opportunities to score 32 goals, finishing second on the team behind Carter.

The ACWPC is comprised of college coaches from all over the country with a goal to promote the development and advancement of collegiate water polo. The members of the association vote to recognize players annually for their achievements in and out of the pool.
