Men's water polo back in top-10 in team GPA

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team continued its collective effort toward academic excellence securing another year on the grade-point average leaderboard. The Panthers placed 10th in the nation according to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) with a collective GPA of 3.08 during the 2013 season.

In addition, five members of the team earned All-Academic honors from the ACWPC. The ACWPC All-Academic Awards are broken down into three levels based on GPA. An athlete with a GPA between 3.71 and 4.0 is "Outstanding". Those with a GPA ranging from 3.41 to 3.70 are "Superior" and the "Excellent" category is between 3.20 and 3.40.

Senior utility Kyle Kim-E and junior driver Dor Apffel earned "Superior" honors. For Kim-E, it was the second straight year he's earned the award.

Three Panthers followed earning "Excellent" recognition as their first ACWPC honor: senior driver Dylan Trumbull, senior driver James Vigeant, and sophomore utility Willis Allen.

Besides ranking 10th in the nation, the Panthers were the third-highest ranked SCIAC school behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (3.28) and Pomona-Pitzer (3.13), beating out Redlands, Occidental and University of La Verne with each team averaging a 3.05 GPA.

Chapman also outranked several Division I schools including Cal Berkley, George Washington and Princeton.
