Softball falls in doubleheader at APU

AZUSA - The Chapman University softball team lost both legs of a doubleheader — 9-1 and 10-3 — Wednesday night against Division II competitor Azusa Pacific.

GAME ONE - L, 9-1

Junior Allie Tajii was a bright spot in the Panther's 9-1 loss going 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring the team's lone run.

Freshman Katie Carder started the game in the circle allowing four runs on eight hits over three innings pitched. Carder held the Cougars to only one run over the first two innings, but their offense exploded for seven runs in the third and fourth. Junior Kelly McCarty finished out the game allowing the final five runs.

GAME TWO - L, 10-3

The only scoring for Chapman came in the top of the third inning. Junior Tracie Okumura picked up right where she left off last week — after winning SCIAC Hitter of the Week — driving in freshman Jordan Stinnett on an RBI double. The Panthers tacked on two more runs after a ground ball from junior Annika Briski scored freshman Christina Denlinger and Okumura on an errant throw.

Freshman Simi Lauwers finished out the game allowing no runs on just one hit in the final 2.1 innings.

Softball will face Redlands next Friday, April 16, at El Camino Real Park for a SCIAC matchup.
