Softball swept in doubleheader at Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University softball team fell in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Redlands, 8-0 and 8-1. The Bulldogs completed a series sweep.

Chapman's bats never quite got going in the series against Redlands. Junior Julia Muniz went 3-for-7 in the series and drove in the Panthers' run while senior Zela Chabazian and junior Tracie Okumura each had three hits in the series as well.

GAME 1 – L, 8-0

Redlands broke open a scoreless game in the third inning, plating four runs on five hits. The Bulldogs scored again in the fifth and Collette Allen came up with the bases loaded in the sixth and ended the game early when she cleared the bases with a double to center.

The Panthers best scoring chance came in the top of the sixth when they loaded the bases on three singles with one out. Back-to-back groundballs ended the threat without any runs crossing the plate.

GAME 2 – L, 8-1

The Panthers jumped on top in the top of the first after Okumura led off the game with a double, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Muniz's squeeze bunt.

Redlands found some more magic in the third inning with another four-run frame, highlighted by a three-run homer from Allen. Three more in the fifth and another in the sixth provided the final margin.

Chapman will hit the road again on Friday to start another SCIAC series with Cal Lutheran. The Panthers and Regals square off at 3 p.m. in Thousand Oaks before returning to El Camino Real Park for a Saturday doubleheader.
