Panthers sweep Regals, remain undefeated

ORANGE, Calif — The Chapman University Panthers looked to sweep a three-game set against Cal Lutheran on Sunday, Mar. 6, and they did just that winning the final game 10-1 in five innings.

Each game ended in five innings as the Panthers offense was deadly at the plate.

This one started off quick with the two hitter, senior Allie Tajii, reaching first on a bunt single, then advancing to second on an errand throw by the third baseman. The next pitch, freshman Gracie Rose ripped a single to left field, scoring Tajii.

Rose tallied three hits on the day, moving her streak of multi-hit games to five, and her season batting average to .621.

The Panthers offense picked right back up in the second inning where senior Julia Muniz hit a bomb to left center, clearing the wall by plently for a home run — her second of the season.

That started off a four spot in the inning for Chapman who led 5-0 heading into the third inning.

Cal Lutheran's lone run came in the top of the third as freshman Jillian Kelly, who has been stellar all season, kept it going on the mound. She allowed only two hits and a run in her five innings of work, and earned her sixth win on the year.

After a scoreless third from the Panther offense they came out and put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth — the big hit coming from senior Tracie Okumura. The second baseman smoked a double into left center, clearing the loaded bases.

With the win the Panthers stay undefeated improving to 11-0 and 5-0 in SCIAC play. The Regals fall to 1-11 and 1-5.

The Panthers pick it back up on Tuesday, Mar. 8 when they host Rochester (Ny.) in a double-header at 2 and 4 p.m.
