Softball garners four All-SCIAC awards

ORANGE, Calif — The SCIAC released its All-SCIAC First and Second Team honors on Wednesday, May 4.

Four Panthers were named to the teams, along with Jillian Kelly being awarded SCIAC Pitcher of the Year and named to the First Team. Annika Briski, Ilianna Serna, and Samantha Kennedy were named Second-Team All SCIAC.

Kelly was dominant in the circle this season for the Panthers. She posted a 1.61 ERA over 22 appearances and 18 starts, 17 of which were complete games, and her first ever start was a no hitter. She led the conference in strikeouts with 135, 56 more than the pitcher with the second highest strikeout total. She also led the SCIAC in wins and saves with a 14-5 record and 2 saves

Serna had a fantastic season for the Panthers at the hot corner and at the dish. She posted a .421 batting average, fifth in SCIAC, and was second on the team in hits with 40. She collected 11 multi-hit games, smacked eight doubles and drove in 18 RBI.

Briski was another force at the plate for Chapman. The Panthers first baseman led the squad in hits with 42, seven of which for extra bases, five doubles and two triples, en route to a .404 batting average. Briski drove in 21 runs as well, good enough for second on the team. She also only committed three errors in 180 total chances at first base, garnering a .983 fielding percentage.

The final award winner, Kennedy had a great first year campaign with Chapman. She split time as the designated player and found herself in the outfield on occasion as well. Kennedy hit .301 with 22 hits and 11 stolen bases, which was seventh in the SCIAC.

These Panthers will get a chance to extend their season this weekend in the SCIAC tournament where they will take on La Verne in the first round at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at Redlands.
