Softball drops final two games of NCAA Regional

SEGUIN, Texas — Although softball dropped both legs of Saturday's double header, the Panthers ended a fantastic season finishing 28-14 with a SCIAC championship and a NCAA Regional appearance against Texas Lutheran.

Game 1 — L, 16-3

Not much went the Panthers way in game one. A 3-for-3 day for Miranda Murphy was the highlight of game one. She scored one of the Panthers runs as well.

Jillian Kelly started in the circle and allowed nine runs, only three earned. While Jessica Kim came in and allowed seven, only one earned.

Chapman scored three runs in the third inning, their first on a fielder's choice, then a wild pitch and a Tracie Okumura RBI single wrapped up the scoring.

Game 2 — L, 5-0

By far the Panthers' most competitive game of the series. Kelly McCarty started in the circle and was great blanking the Bulldogs through the first two innings.

She finished pitching four innings allowing five runs, only three of them earned. Simi Lauwers followed with two impressive shutdown innings. The Panther sophomore struck out three and allowed just one hit.

The Panthers season is over, but not after becoming SCIAC champs and reaching the NCAA tournament. Something this team can carry into next season with a strong young core poised to make a similar run next season.
