Softball captures third sweep in five days

ORANGE, Calif. — Softball took home its sixth and seventh wins of the week in today's double header — rescheduled from this coming Saturday —  sweep over Buena Vista, 8-2 and 7-2.

Game 1 - W, 8-2

Chapman's bats came out on fire, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, forcing the Beavers' starting pitcher out of the game after recording only one out.

Ilianna Serna started her tear at the plate, driving in the Panthers' first run via a double into the left-center field gap. Shea Higa scored, setting the table for a 15-run Panther afternoon. Serna would finish the day 3-for-8 with four RBI.

Morgan Lastinger had a great game in the opener with a perfect 3-for-3 day hitting the ball hard each time, breaking a streak of nine-straight hitless at bats.

Miranda Murphy had another solid day at the plate as well hitting at the same 3-for-3 clip. This was Murphy's fifth multi-hit game of the young season as she boasts a .424 batting average.

In the circle, Rose Malen shut down the Beavers. She pitched her second career complete game, grabbing her third win of the season. She struck out 10 batters, the most in her career, and allowed no earned runs.

Game 2 - W, 7-2

Another exceptional offensive performance from the Panthers collecting eight hits and showing a keen eye taking five walks.

Emily Hayes knocked her first hit of the season into left field in her first at bat and followed it up with another. She went 2-for-3 in game two. Serna and Higa were the other two Panthers with multi-hit games in the second game.

The story was the same in the circle with Jillian Kelly dealing five innings of one-run ball, striking out four. Izzy Epstein filled Kelly's shoes, closing out the final two innings allowing a run, surrendering no walks.

No Panther pitcher allowed an earned run on the day.

With the victories the Panthers improved to 9-4 on the season. They are right back in action tomorrow, same place and same times, to take on Manhattanville.
