Softball takes two, captures sweep over Regals

ORANGE, Calif. — Softball finished off a three-game sweep, deja vu style, pulling off back-to-back 4-0 wins over the Regals at El Camino Real Park on Saturday, April 1.

Game 1 - W, 4-0

Chapman came out hot at the plate, scoring two runs in the first. Gracie Rose ripped a double to left, scoring Sam Kennedy and Morgan Lastinger on the play.

Then in the second, the Panthers tacked on their final scores of the game on another double. This time, Miranda Murphy doubled to left, bringing home Kennedy and Emily Hayes. While the Panthers were held scoreless the remainder of the game, so were the Regals.

Simi Lauwers was dominant, earning her seventh win of the season pitching her second shutout of 2023. She gave up only four hits and struck out four as well.

Game 2 - W, 4-0

Nearly identical to game one, game two featured a four-hit shutout performance from Rose Malen and two runs in the first inning.

Ilianna Serna started off the scoring, reaching on a two-out error, which scored Murphy. Jordan Stinnet followed with a single to bring home Lastinger.

Serna was back at the dish in the third and ripped a double to the wall in left scoring Rose, then later found the plate herself on a Grace Fosselman single.

Malen closed the door giving the Panthers their sixth straight SCIAC win to open the conference season.

Chapman now sits at 16-7 on the season and 6-0 in SCIAC play. They return to El Camino on Friday to take on Redlands in a three-game series.
