Malen selected to NFCA All-Region team

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Rose Malen has ended her first year with the Chapman University softball as an All-Region Third Team selection. Malen is the second freshman pitcher from Chapman in as many seasons to earn the award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The NFCA released its All-Region teams on Friday, which included Malena as a Third Team pitcher. Malen had an outstanding freshman season with a 1.54 ERA in 188 inning pitched. She struck out 86 while walking just 18 and gave up more than three runs just three times in 14 starts and limited opponents to just a .229 batting average.

She tossed 10 complete games with one shutout to go along with her 9-8 record and a pair of saves.

The standout from San Rafael, Calif. led a Chapman pitching staff that ranked 31st in Division III in ERA. Malen ranked in the top-100 in the nation in ERA, strikeout-to-walk ratio and saves

The Panthers made their third consecutive trip to the SCIAC Tournament championships game after tying for first in the SCIAC standings for the first time in program history. Chapman posted a 27-16 overall, including a 19-9 record at home.
