Panthers remain hot with Bay Area sweep
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Chapman University women's basketball team won for the 10th time in its last 11 games, sweeping a pair of games in the Division III Independents Round Robin Tournament hosted by U.C. Santa Cruz over the weekend. The Panthers defeated the University of Dallas on Saturday night 61-47 and then beat the host Banana Slugs 67-46 on Sunday.
Game 1: Chapman 61, Dallas 47
Chapman's bench scored 37 of the team's 61 points in the
game and led a big first-half charge past the Crusaders. The
Panthers led 38-20 at halftime while shooting over 53 percent from
the field. Just one Chapman player reached double figures in
scoring (Linda Ly, 11), however the scoring was
spread throughout the roster with 11 players scoring at least a
field goal. Five Chapman women scored six or more points, including
sophomores Brandi Hood and Jenna
Nakasu who had eight points each off the bench.
Game 2: Chapman 67, U.C. Santa Cruz 46
The Panthers held their opponents under 50 points for the
eighth time this season and just 28.6 percent shooting from the
field. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz had no answer for Chapman's senior C
Andrijana Kerkez inside. Kerkez made 9 of 11 field
goals for a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Chapman.
Senior PG Lauren Kamiyama extended her career
assists record with six more and added six rebounds and two steals.
With four regular season games remaining, Chapman (16-7) has clinched its 15th consecutive winning season.
