Jue to be honored by Chinese Historical Society

ORANGE, Calif. - Chapman University women's basketball coach Carol Jue will be honored by the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California, at a gala celebrating Chinese Americans in sports. Jue, who has been the Panthers' head coach since 2003, is the only Chinese head coach in NCAA basketball - men's or women's.

The 34th annual dinner will take place this Sunday in Monterey Park. It is the first year, the CHSSC has celebrated Chinese Americans in sports.

Others being honored by the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California include:
            *Michael Chang, tennis great
            *Norm Chow, UCLA football offensive coordinator
            *Kim Ng, Los Angeles Dodgers VP and Assistant GM
            *Richard Tom, Olympic bronze medal for weight lifting
            *Tiffany Chin, Olympic figure skater 

Jue has guided Chapman to six NCAA playoff appearances in six years, including five 20-win seasons and advancing to the second round of the playoffs three times. Under her direction, the Panthers won a school-record 24 games in the 2007-08 season. Jue ranks second in school history with 127 victories and a .765 winning percentage. She has been named Association of Division III Independents Coach of the Year twice and coached two ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America selections.

Since its founding in 1975, the CHSSC has been one of the most active and visible volunteer organizations in the Chinese American community.
