Hot shooting powers Panthers to win over La Sierra

ORANGE, Calif. - Behind its 64 percent shooting from the field, the Chapman University women's basketball team ran away with a 78-23 win over La Sierra University on Saturday night at the Hutton Sports Center.

Against La Sierra's zone defense, Chapman (13-11) stormed out to a 20-2 lead, scoring the first 11 points of the game. The Panthers shot 66.7 percent from the field in the first half including 4-of-6 from the three-point line and were led by junior F Simone Ibbotson who had 11 of her game-high 13 points in the period.

With a 44-14 lead, the Panthers began the second half on a 20-0 run over a 10 minute stretch to put the game out of reach. La Sierra followed with back-to-back buckets from Kate Case and junior G Audrey Ramos who finished the game with 6 and 12 points, respectively. The Eagles dressed just five players for the game.

Junior Tara Glennon had 12 points for the Panthers on 6-of-10 shooting while senior Linda Ly finished with nine. Prior to the game, Ly was honored in a brief ceremony for her record-breaking achievements as a Chapman University volleyball and basketball player.
