Season-ender is one to remember for Panthers

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's basketball team closed its season by defeating visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 83-54 Tuesday night at the Hutton Center. On ‘Senior Night', the Panthers' only senior, G Linda Ly scored 10 points and had seven assists and was honored prior to the game.

Ly finished off her career with 1,079 points scored - one of nine players in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Ly tied for a season-high with her seven assists. The decorated two-sport star nailed a three-pointer with her final career shot before leaving the game late in the second half. A two-time All-Independents selection, Ly finished second on Chapman's Division III steals list with 204 in her career.

The Panthers started off with a big first half led by hot shooting sophomore G Mary Petrie and her four three-point field goals. Chapman began with an 11-0 run in the first 4:17 and continued to build its lead to 26-4 after 9 minutes of play. Petrie scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the first half as the Panther led 40-20 at halftime.

Continuing into the second half, Chapman (14-11) stretched its advantage to 34 points with 14:23 left in the game. Junior G Tara Glennon was 5-for-5 from the field in the second half, scoring 14 points total for the Panthers. Junior G Casey Gomez finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

For the Sagehens, Deirdre Chew led all scorers with 19 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Anja Hughes-Stinson was also in double-figures with 10 points. A tough Chapman defense forced Pomona-Pitzer (5-19) to commit 37 turnovers throughout the game.

Chapman ended their regular season with three-game winning streak and won 12 of its final 16 games.
