Redlands pulls away in the second half to beat Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's basketball team was held to just seven points in the first 12 minutes of the second half as visiting University of Redlands pulled away en route to a 78-59 victory at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday evening. The loss snapped the Panthers brief two-game win streak as they dropped to 1-3 at home this season.

An eight and a half minute run by Redlands (5-2) gave the Bulldogs a 20-point advantage midway through the second half. The Panthers had trailed by four points at halftime and cut the deficit to 38-36 with 16:27 left in the game. However, the Bulldogs then started a 20-2 run - fueled almost entirely by F Meghan Yetman who scored 15 points - as Redlands opened the game up. That gave the Bulldogs a 58-38 lead with under eight minutes remaining.

Chapman shot just 22 percent in the second half on 9-of-41 shooting. Meanwhile, Redlands was sent to the free throw line 37 times in the second half as the Bulldogs made 25. Yetman scored 20 of her 24 points in the second half, while F Courtney Carroll led all scorers with 25 points and added 13 rebounds to earn the double-double for the Bulldogs. Redlands out-rebounded Chapman 53-29 in the game.

The Panthers had three players reach double figures in points, led by junior G Casey Gomez and sophomore G Mary Petrie who had 14 apiece. Senior G Linda Ly had 10 points and added four steals for Chapman.
