Bench provides second-half spark in 80-58 win over North Central

ORANGE, Calif. – A six-point lead at halftime turned into an 80-58 win for the Chapman University women's basketball team over North Central College on Sunday afternoon at the Hutton Center as the bench scored 27 of its 36 points in the second half to help secure the win. The Panthers have now won five in a row including four-straight at home.

Senior C Brandi Hood and junior G Mary Petrie combined to score 34 points off the bench – 21 in the second half – as they finished with 19 and 15 points, respectively. The second half began with Chapman (6-3) leading 36-30 and the margin would have been three points had senior G Tara Glennon not closed out the first half with a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Panthers started the second half with an 18-7 run to push its lead to 54-37 with 14 minutes remaining highlighted by Glennon who had five of her 14 points during that stretch. North Central (3-4) quickly narrowed Chapman's lead to 54-42 with 12:56 remaining after a three-pointer by senior G Jackie Errico and a pair of free throws by sophomore C Terra Musgrove. Errico finished with a team-high 14 points to go along with seven rebounds while Musgrove had eight points.

After the Cardinals' run which narrowed the lead to 12, the Panthers quickly answered back with a 6-0 run to take an 18 point lead at the 10 minute mark and would extend the lead to as many as 22 points later in the half.

It was not until the second half that Chapman opened up its lead. North Central frustrated Chapman in the first half by pressing and then sitting back in a zone defense which limited Chapman to just 30 percent three-point shooting in the half. The largest lead that either team managed in the first 20 minutes was six points.
