Takaoka earns Capital One Academic All-District honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University sophomore G Kimi Takaoka has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women's Basketball second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The athletic training major from Arcadia, Calif. is the Panthers' first women's basketball player to receive this honor since Nicole Hayman and Christina Ly each did so in 2008-09.

Takaoka leads the Panthers with career highs in scoring, three pointers made (30), and free-throw percentage (83.1). She is currently averaging 17.4 points and has scored in double figures in 18 of 20 games including five games of 20 or more. She scored a career-high 34 points versus La Verne on Dec. 2, just four points short of Chapman's single-game record.

The first-year starter has compiled a grade point average of 3.91. It is the first such honor for Takaoka in her young career.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.

Chapman (11-9) plays host to Arizona Christian Friday, Feb. 3 in the Hutton Sports Center at 7 p.m. The Panthers will play four of their final five games at home.
