Takaoka earns Capital One Academic All-District honors for second straight year

ORANGE, Calif. – In recognition of her excellent performance both on and off the court, Chapman University junior G Kimi Takaoka has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women's Basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). With this recognition, the athletic training major becomes the first Chapman women's basketball player to receive the honor in consecutive seasons since Nicole Hayman did so in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Takaoka, a second-year starter, currently leads the team with an average of 16.4 points per game. She has scored in double-digits in 16 of the Panthers' 20 games, including a career-best 35-point performance on Nov. 17 vs. UC Merced. Takaoka's high-scoring effort at the Redlands Tip-Off Classic earned her the SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week honors.

The rigors of competition have not slowed down Takaoka in the classroom as the Arcadia, Calif. native owns a 3.93 cumulative grade point average.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.

Chapman (15-5) currently sits in fifth place in the SCIAC standings with five games remaining. This Saturday, the Panthers will play host to the La Verne Leopards at 5 p.m. in the Hutton Sports Center.
