Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.

Chapman University celebrated another banner year in athletics with its annual Jog-a-thon and Sports Appreciation Day at Wilson Field on Friday afternoon. Besides celebrating the school’s first-ever SCIAC championship (women’s basketball) and another SCIAC Tournament title (men’s basketball), the Panthers recognized four seniors with the Department of Athletics annual awards.
More recognition for Takaoka who earns D3Hoops All-Region

Chapman University senior Kimi Takaoka has been named to the D3Hoops.com women’s basketball All-West Region team for the 2013-14 season. The shooting guard earned All-Region honors for the second straight year from D3Hoops and becomes the first Panther named to the first team since Melody Bongiorno ’04 in 2003-04.
Men's, women's NCAA Tournament life short-lived

A pair of losses for the Chapman University men’s and women’s basketball teams ended their seasons in the first rounds of their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments on Friday night. The Panther men fell 85-70 to host and No. 16-ranked University of Texas-Dallas in the central time zone preceding a 106-51 loss by the women to host and No. 7-ranked Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. in the nation’s last game of the night.

The SCIAC co-champion Chapman University women’s basketball team was well-represented when the All-SCIAC teams were announced Wednesday. Senior G Kimi Takaoka was named Athlete of the Year, while junior PG Andrea Villanueva and sophomore F Sandra Gao garnered Second Team honors.

Chapman University women’s basketball player Kimi Takaoka has been named as one of 10 female finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, awarded annually to the most outstanding men’s and women’s NCAA Division III basketball player who excels on the floor, in the classroom and in the community.

Following the disappointment of Saturday night’s loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament final, the Chapman University women’s basketball team found new life on Monday morning. The Panthers were awarded a Pool ‘C’ (at-large) berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament and will travel to Walla Walla, Wash. to face No. 1-ranked Whitman College in the first round to be played on Friday, game time to be determined.
Claremont women defeat Chapman to win SCIAC Tournament

The Chapman University women’s basketball team fell 78-60 to visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the 2014 SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship game at the Harold Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night. The game marked the Panthers’ second straight loss in the tournament final after losing to Cal Lutheran in 2013.

With a win over host University of La Verne, the Chapman University women’s basketball team earned a share of the SCIAC regular season championship, the Panthers’ first in any sport in school history. Chapman defeated the Leopards 59-41 on the road to close out the regular season and by virtue of a tiebreaker, the Panthers captured the No. 1 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament which begins on Thursday.

The Panthers’ victory extends their win streak to six games with just two games remaining in the regular season.
Takaoka earns third straight Capital One Academic All-District honors

For the third straight season, Chapman University women’s basketball player Kimi Takaoka has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women’s Basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior guard becomes the first Panther women’s basketball player in a decade to receive the honor in three consecutive seasons and the first Chapman athlete in seven years to accomplish the feat.
Panthers hold off CMS rally to earn share of first place

With wins in five of its last six contests, the Chapman University women’s basketball team has claimed a share of the top spot in the SCIAC conference heading into the final month of play. The achievement did not come easy, however, as the Panthers held off a late rally by Claremont-M-S on Thursday to earn a 73-69 win at the Hutton Sports Center.
